The Kind of Trip You Only Get When You Pack Light

I landed on a quiet little island, hoping for some peace. No scam, no weird encounters—just me, a small room, and the sound of waves. Except for one thing: mosquitos. A whole night with one buzzing around my ear meant almost no sleep.
🛏️ Where I stayed:
A local guesthouse called Silk Road. It’s a 20-minute walk from the main island’s bus terminal, but the view? Straight to the sea. The downstairs is a lively little bar strip—perfect if you want a drink after a long walk. I’d suggest staying here only if you’re comfortable walking with your bag.
🚏 Getting there:
I didn’t take the ferry, so can’t say much about that. But I can tell you how to get from the island to the airport. You can use Google Maps to find the #5 bus heading to Marco Polo Airport. You’ll find a small kiosk nearby where tickets are sold—airport tickets cost €10, while local ones like Tessera are only €1.5. If you’re carrying a backpack, getting off at Tessera and walking 15 minutes is very doable. The route is clearly marked. But for those with roller luggage, beware: the last bit has steps and uneven pavement.

🍝 What I ate:
1.Osteria “Aea Canevassa” — Tucked behind Ca’ Foscari University, this spot serves small portions, ideal for when you're not too hungry. Their melon wine (p10) is extra creamy and fruity, and I’d recommend it just for the experience.
2.Random bakery near p11 — Roasted duck sandwiches, €11 for three. Couldn’t remember the name, but the flavor stuck.

📿 Unexpected find:
A handmade glass shop named Calchera Fabio. Inside were tiny, well-crafted glass creatures—no cheesy tourist feel. I picked up a mosquito charm (revenge!) and a tiny duck sausage dog. Even a bracelet. Best part? Everything was affordable—easily the best-priced shop I saw on the whole trip.
Sometimes, carrying less leads you somewhere more real. No packed itinerary, just walking slowly with a lightweight waterproof backpack and seeing what comes your way.
