Is This the Most Relaxing Hike in Germany? A Route Near Austria

If I could only visit one part of Germany, it would be the south.
Compared to other cities I’ve been to in Germany, this region—close to Austria and Switzerland—feels different. The nature is quieter, the towns smaller, and everything feels more walkable. Without much planning, a four-to-five-day hiking route was enough to really take it in.

DAY 1
Landed at Memmingen Airport. Took the day to rest.

DAY 2
From Memmingen Airport train station, I headed to Oberstaufen. A small town—worth spending the night and adjusting before hiking.

DAY 3

Oberstaufen to Freibad Kleiner Alpsee. Camped in the nearby open space. If time allows, I’d suggest staying longer in Oberstaufen. The area’s pace makes it easy to linger.

DAY 4

Freibad Kleiner Alpsee to Senz & Done, another spot by the lake. This section was flat, and the views opened up gradually. I had everything I needed in a 20L waterproof backpack for hiking, packed light for mobility, and never missed anything.

DAY 5

Walked back from Senz & Done to Oberstaufen to end the route. It was a short return, perfect to wrap things up without rush.
📍 Location: Southern Germany. Oberstaufen, Bühl am Alpsee
🚉 If you’re not hiking, you can still take the train to Immenstadt or Oberstaufen and explore both towns casually.

🎒 Travel gear tip:
For this route, I packed with the Backpackbeat Waterproof Hiking Backpack 20L. Compact enough for movement, big enough to hold layers, snacks, and daily essentials.
