Why Brunswick St. Should Be on Every Solo Traveller’s Melbourne Map
Share
If you're exploring Melbourne solo, there’s one street you shouldn't miss: Brunswick St. in Fitzroy. A blend of art, coffee, creativity, and character, this lively strip feels like a curated collection of all the best bits of the city—without trying too hard.

I spent a quiet afternoon strolling southbound along this street, no particular rush, just letting curiosity lead the way. With my lightweight expandable backpack slung over one shoulder—just enough space for my camera, a scarf, and a small sketchbook—I mapped out a series of stops that made the walk feel more like a slow discovery than a checklist.
1.Shabana Jacobson Studio
A hidden jewellery and ceramic workshop that feels more like an artist’s nook than a shop. Everything here is handmade, with a raw, modern edge. It’s the kind of place where each piece seems to carry a bit of the maker’s spirit—great for finding a personal keepsake or a thoughtful gift.
2.Jasper Coffee
This specialty coffee roaster had me hooked before I even stepped inside—just from the aroma on the street. They source beans from around the world, and the staff don’t just serve you coffee, they talk you through it. A 200g bag of award-winning beans cost me $14 AUD—worth every sip.
3.FinerRings
Local jewellery, handmade and full of quiet detail. I liked how approachable the space felt—no high-pressure sales, just soft lighting and minimalist displays. The pieces are wearable, everyday kinds of beautiful—nothing flashy, but always noticed.
4.Wilkins & Kent Furniture & Design
You know those shops where you want to touch everything? This is one of them. Shelves full of local-made ceramics, furniture, and quirky home goods. I didn’t plan to buy anything, but left with a tiny spoon and a linen pouch that now lives in my 20L pack.

5.Zetta Florence
My favourite stop. This stationery store is massive, but feels cosy—lined with handmade cards, wrapping paper, and notebooks that make you want to write again. I ended up buying a letter set and a roll of washi tape for no reason at all. That’s the kind of shop it is.

6.Pony White
To end the walk, I settled into this sunlit brunch spot. Interiors full of white wood and greenery, and a menu that actually delivers. I went for the Okonomiyaki Benedict and the prawn linguini—unusual choices, but surprisingly well-balanced.

The best part? You don’t have to loop back—just head north to south and you’ve got yourself a full afternoon of casual stops. I’ve shared a detailed walking map in the guide below, so you can follow the same no-turning-back route.
Whether you’re looking for something to take home, or just want to soak up the creative rhythm of Fitzroy, Brunswick St. is a good reminder that travel isn’t always about landmarks—it’s about little places that feel right when you step in.
